Son Held in Stabbing Death of Hopkins Road Woman

A psychiatric examination was ordered for a 28-year-old man whom Amherst Police suspect stabbed his mother to death last Thursday, March 13.

Jeremy M. Perkins has been charged with second degree murder and weapons possession. The victim was his. mother, Elli Perkins, 54, of 1435 Hopkins Road.

Police were called to the residence about 10:30 after receiving a call from a neighbor, asking them to check on Mrs. Perkins.

Lt. Mark Gravelle was the first officer to enter the home and located the suspect-inside. Gravelle detained him until fellow of ficers William Fecher and John Trabert arrived and took him out side while aid was rendered to the victim.

Mrs. Perkins, the, former Elli Present, was a native of Rochester. She attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and was self-employed as an artist.

She helped run the Niagara Craft Association and was a member of the Sterling Renaissance Faire for 23 years.

Other survivors include husband, Donald E.; a daughter, Danielle E. Carlson of Buffalo; her mother, Jean Present of Florida; and two sisters, Tari Carson Gray and Judy Horowitz. Services were held in the Roberts & Dengler Funeral Trabert Home.
